No Man Bags In Egypt
News Flash - Egyptian men do not carry man bags. They may walk arm in arm, hold hands, kiss hello, but never take a bag. Before entering the new library in Alexandria, you have to check bags. When I went to get mine back, the guard asked me "where is the owner (feminine) of this bag?" I told him it was me, he watched me as I put it over my shoulder and walked away, then I realized what had just happened.

Perhaps he was scandalized that you did not have a designer bag.
it was a mannish, no name bag that I got in Singapore, just to carry touristic type stuff
